KEFLAVÍK - Framkvæmdir á hlaði við ITS flugskýli (Verkefni MAM25) /
KEFLAVIK - Construction work at ITS maintenance apron (Project MAM25)

Content Responsibility: Isavia, Keflavik Airport

1 Introduction

The project consists of maintenance and improvements of the apron next to the ITS hangar at Keflavík Airport. The aim is to improve the layout and operational efficiency of the apron through the redesign and construction of new aircraft stands, as well as upgrades to the apron’s infrastructure and surface. Key changes include the creation of a new MARS stand providing flexible use for different aircraft sizes, the merging of two existing stands into a single “drive-through” stand for smaller aircraft, and the construction of new service roads to improve access and safety. The project also involves soil replacement, asphalt resurfacing, reinforced concrete pavement at critical aircraft wheel areas, and the installation of a new stormwater drainage system.Construction will be carried out in three phases, with an expected timeline from August to October 2025.

1.1 Estimated validity

It is estimated that the construction work will continue at the apron from end of August 2025 until the end of October 2025.
Impact on operation because the construction will be published in a NOTAM if necessary.

1.2 Project

The project involves the reorganization and improvement of the apron in front of the ITS hangar. Works include the maintenance and upgrade of the existing asphalt surface, including milling, concrete works, and new paving. Part of the apron will be constructed in reinforced concrete to improve durability and extend its service life. A new surface water channel and drainage system will be installed and connected to the existing sewer network on the aerodrome. The apron will be expanded to the west and south through soil replacement, filling, and paving. In addition, new stormwater inlets and catch basins will be installed along with the necessary earthworks.

1.3 Project impact on the operation of aircraft

Stand 63 will remain closed for the duration of the works.
Stands 64 and 65 will generally remain open but will be closed temporarily for two days during milling and paving works (weather constrained work that’s scheduled for one weekend in September).
The construction area will be secured with fencing and unserviceability markers for the duration of the project.

1.4 Opening layout of new stand layout
