GEN 1.4.1 Customs requirements concerning Cargo and other articles

All aircraft flying into or departing Iceland carrying cargo or supplies are subject to customs control. Documents required for the clearance of goods through customs are specified in
GEN 1.2.2.5.Customs declaration for release for free circulation, and invoice and if needed an import/ export licence and/or declaration of origin may be required.

Normally no specific documents are required for cargo arriving from aboard and destined for shipment to another country which is being transshipped to another, outbound aircraft, at the same airport under customs control. It is however understood that such transit cargo is described in the General Declaration or singed Cargo Manifests submitted regarding both aircraft.

The same applies to cargo arriving from abroad, destined for shipment to another country and remaining on board the aircraft. It is however understood, that the cargo in question is described in the General Declaration or signed Cargo Manifest.

GEN 1.4.2 Restricted articles
|
Among goods which are subject to import restrictions are the following types of products:

Telephones and other communications equipment shall fulfil essential requirements and shall have the CE mark affixed in conformation. Importation of telephones and other communications equipment that do not have the CE mark are subject to a permit from the Post and Telecom Administration.

Angling gear, riding gear and riding clothing which has been used outside Iceland may be brought into the country if it has been disinfected according to the appropriate regulations. A certificate of disinfection issued by an authorized vet nary officer will be acceptable to customs. If such a certificate is not available, the disinfection will be executed in Iceland.

Firearms and ammunition. Import permit from the National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police is required.

Live animals. Importation of any kind of animal, as well as their genetic material, is prohibited unless a permit from Ministry of Agriculture has been obtained.

Narcotics and dangerous drugs are prohibited. Medicines require import permit except if imported by individual for his/her own personal use and is legally prescribed and the dosage does not exceed 30 days in case it is an individual with residence in a state that is a member of Schengen-agreement and 14 days in case it is an individual with a residence in a state outside Schengen.

Flowers and other plants. A sanitary certificate issued by the relevant authorities in the country of cultivation, endorsed by the Icelandic Agricultural Research Institute is generally required.

Importation of products of animals and goods that can carry transmissible agents that can cause diseases in animals and men is prohibited unless a permit from Ministry of Agriculture has been obtained.

Export of certain plants (protected species), objects of historical or archaeological interest is subject to export restrictions according to law.

GEN 1.4.3 Agricultural Quarantine Requirements

Live animals. Imported pets shall stay in quarantine for four weeks (see regulation on importation of pets and dog semen). Imported fur animals shall stay in quarantine for no less than 24 weeks (see regulation on importation of fur animals).
